Betrayal

Steaming out of the door, Cody headed towards the tall buildings at the centre of the city.

Johnny had betrayed him and would have to pay a price.

His state of mind wasn’t helped by the fact that Johnny was supposed to be bringing him information, that only he was able to obtain. If only Cody had taken that wretched pass card from Johnny, then he could have discovered what was required from those places of learning.

His schism with Johnny was all because of that foul demon Mammon, giving him that damn gift of being able to see too much of the world and even unpleasant glimpses of the future. Johnny cheating on him had never been something that had bothered Cody before, but now that he could see what it represented, he hated his little blond lover for being so unfaithful.

Entering the subway station and feeling like spitting in rage at the beautiful mosaics that lined the stairways and passages, he forced himself to keep journeying onwards.

The train he boarded clanked, seemingly as irritated with its surroundings as he was with his, and he slumped down into one of the tattered seats.

After thinking through his options and only fuming more with each of them, like a furnace that was being stoked too strongly, he crossed his arms. Now he thought how best to gain his retribution, and a nasty revenge upon the younger man. Johnny needed to suffer, and Cody would make sure that he did. No matter how long it took him to achieve it.

Whilst still pissed off with the situation, he stared at a man and a woman, who were probably a perfectly nice couple, but because they had dared to hold eye contact with Cody for more than a second, he now had them on his kill list.

Watching them until they realised that he might be psychotic and dangerous, he was pleased to see them look away and start to chat about something irrelevant.

The train stopped, and the doors opened and closed with a hiss of compressed air. Damn he hated these noisy, crappy trains - he thought - and this made his funk even darker, than it had been before.

“Hello, could you help me with this?” said a sweet voice to his right, that sounded angelic.

Shaking his head to throw away his anger, he turned and saw a smiling child of maybe twelve years of age.

“Please!” said the girl, kindly and insistently, clearly being well brought up.

“Oh hi,” said Cody, still trying to throw away the shackles of anger. “Help you with what?”

“It’s this piece of homework I have. My granny cannot help me,” the girl said and pointed at an elderly grey haired woman. “She does not know much you see.”

Unable to comprehend niceness, Cody thought about just getting up and leaving at the next station, but then figured that was not a reasonable thing to do.

“Well, what is it?” Cody asked kindly.

“It’s maths and I don’t understand how to make these calculations.”

Then the girl pushed
